Overview
Welcome to Destin
Affectionately called “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” Destin is a small strip of land that borders both the Choctawhatchee Bay and on the Gulf of Mexico. What was once a sleepy little fishing community has grown into a vacation mecca over the past forty years. The Destin Harbor is the heart of the city and is home to the largest charter fishing fleet in North America. Visitors and locals take in this landmark by exploring HarborWalk Village where you can grab some sushi at Jackacuda’s in the center of it all or fire the sunset cannon at HarryT’s, a longtime favorite restaurant and bar. There is also an abundance of family-oriented activities on the Harbor. Ziplines, kayak and paddleboard rentals, speed boat adventures on the Sea Blaster, dolphin cruises on the Southern Star or take the kids for an entertaining experience on a 100-foot, triple deck authentic pirate ship. Weekly events and fireworks shows are the norm in this charming, waterfront destination. Destin also utilizes the fresh catch that the boats bring in to supply unique, locally owned seafood restaurants including Brotula’s Seafood House, Marina Café, Harbor Docks, Dewey Destin’s and more. If you are ready to shop, Destin Commons is where you will find a diverse selection of big name retailers including Bass Pro Shops and Lowe’s for the gentlemen and an assortment of clothing, jewelry, and children’s shops for the whole family. If you are looking for something faster paced, rent a jet ski or a pontoon boat and enjoy a day at the famous sandbar, Crab Island, or pop over to Norriego Point to watch the boats come in. While Destin is a haven for vacationers during summer, you will find many who enjoy boating, fishing and beach that love calling this town home.
