The first vacation to the beach which I recall from my childhood included a trip to Panama City Beach. I never dreamed that I would one day, return to the beach and call it home. The beach in South Walton has a strong pull on me, just as it has on the tiny particles of quartz which have flowed down the river systems and into the Gulf of Mexico, over millions of years, from what is thought to once have been the tallest mountains in the world – the Appalachian Mountains.
Much like the fluidity of the seemingly-permanent mountains, changing into the sand on our beach, I too, am dynamic and see every moment as different from the last. Everyone and everything is unique, including my customers and properties which I represent. Working in real estate, there are no two days alike, and that serves as a helpful reminder that we are constantly changing, just like the tiny remnants of quartz from the Appalachian Mountains which continue to form the sand on our beautiful beaches.
After graduating from the University of Georgia, I worked in the private Country Club management before deciding to get out and see the country, by foot! When my body ached from walking about 1500 miles on the Appalachian Trail for several months, followed by exploring nearly every national park west of Colorado, I felt the need to settle down. After living in the mountains of Western North Carolina (Asheville), I decided to move to the beach here in South Walton, and reinvent myself. I have never felt more at home. An avid outdoorsman, I feel a great connection to this area, where 40% of the land is state-owned forest and parks. On the rare coastal dune lakes in South Walton, I also feel at home, and often spend time on my kayak, leading tours as a kayak and nature guide. Some of my community involvement includes volunteering and serving for the Seaside REP Theatre Board of Directors, the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (NW Florida College), and Florida Lake Watch (University of Florida). Some of my other serious interests include anything associated with creativity, including photography, drawing, painting, pottery, graphic arts, knitting, and free-lance writing.
My interest in real estate probably began as a young child, when my parents would load us into the car on an occasional Sunday afternoon, and we would ride around looking at property. I’m not sure that we were ever shopping for property, but I have fond memories of those times, looking at real estate. When I moved to South Walton, my primary interest was naturally real estate. Quickly, I connected with many people in our community, and within four years, I ranked in the top 7% of REALTORS® (world-wide) in my international company. Currently, I serve on the Emerald Coast Association of REALTORS® (ECAR) MLS Committee as Co-Chair, and am a member of ECAR, Florida Association of REALTORS®, and National Association of REALTORS®. I am also a graduate of the REALTOR® Institute. As often as possible, I attend Walton County Commissioner meetings to stay informed and try and shape our community. Gordon Tarver, Realtor Associate
Shortly after Gordon was born in Lexington, KY in 1981 his family decided to move to Centerville, OH. Seven years later they relocated to Huntsville, AL only to move again to Cookeville, TN. The only constant in all of these moves came during each summer when his family vacationed on Florida's Panhandle. Starting in Navarre Beach, moving east to Sandestin, and finally years later settling in Seagrove Beach.

Karen started her first career on Hilton Head Island in the late 70's first in the travel business and then real estate. A move to Atlanta was next. Quickly tiring of that lifestyle and desperately missing the water she and her husband, Steve, decided to move to the beach on a "whim." Timing was everything and she was fortunate enough to be a part of the Watercolor sales team from day one. Constantly a top producer, after 9 years a move to The Premier Property Group seemed right as she was ready to expand her horizons.
